Køge Chapel

Visualizations: CUBO

Woodconstruction has supplied and installed the glulam structure for the chapel in Køge, where the solemn ceremonial hall constitutes the complex’s most dignified space.

The project has been created with a focus on dignity, privacy, and presence. The architectural interventions clearly separate the ceremonial from the practical functions and create a calm progression for relatives. The building intertwines with the park’s structure, forming intimate courtyards and covered outdoor areas as natural spaces for pause.

Part of the existing chapel has been preserved and is integrated harmoniously into the whole, where red brick and clay tiles are continued.

A column structure in Douglas fir unifies the complex and emphasizes the contrast between earth and sky. The weight of the materials, the proportions, and the closeness to nature create a dignified and composed place for farewell and reflection.
