Sustainable construction is about more than just CO2

Sustainability is important to us—not just in construction, but throughout our entire organization. We view it as a holistic effort across activities and resources, striving to integrate climate, environmental, and social responsibility into as much of what we do as possible.

Sustainable construction?

For us, sustainability is about more than just reducing CO₂ emissions. It’s also about building healthy, durable, and aesthetically pleasing structures that will last for generations—while ensuring care for nature, people, and local communities.

Supporting reforestation in Ecuador

We make ongoing donations to the Growing Trees Network, which facilitates rainforest restoration in Ecuador. These funds support investments in sustainable balsa tree plantations, which absorb three times more CO₂ than a typical Danish forest. Establishing and maintaining these new forests also creates job opportunities for Indigenous communities.

Giving back what we take

We recognize that construction consumes Earth's resources and affects the climate, environment, and people. That’s why we exclusively use CLT and glulam from PEFC-certified suppliers, ensuring that more trees are planted than harvested.

Staying ahead of the curve

We believe that collaboration and knowledge-sharing are key to driving the green transition forward. That’s why we actively participate in exhibitions and conferences such as Building Green, Build in Wood, and the Climate People’s Meeting, while maintaining an ongoing dialogue with potential green partners.

For a better world

We use the United Nations' 17 Sustainable Development Goals as a guiding framework for improving sustainability within our company—from production and material choices to everyday operations in our offices.

How we contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals

CLT elements weigh less than their concrete counterparts, requiring fewer truckloads and less transportation. The elements are precisely cut at the factory, ensuring they fit perfectly for the respective construction. By using CLT and laminated timber, we achieve optimal resource utilization with an absolute minimum of waste.

We build with high quality, focusing on health and safety. CLT and laminated timber are naturally moisture-regulating materials that contribute to a good indoor climate. We support local actors who are advocating for sustainability — for instance, we support EN FOR HOLDET, which works on waste collection in our cities and the surrounding nature. Additionally, we support indigenous people in Ecuador through donations to Growing Trees Network, which creates local jobs.

We build based on the 'Design for Disassembly' principle, which means the entire structure can be taken apart and reused. This applies to both CLT and laminated timber elements, as well as in the details, all the way down to screws and fasteners. The circular mindset permeates our entire organization, from the materials we use in construction to upcycling trade show booths and reusing office furniture. For instance, we buy all our IT equipment used from Refurbed.

We only use wood from PEFC-certified forests in growth. This ensures that production meets high standards of sustainable forestry and that forest areas and biodiversity are preserved and enhanced. Additionally, we support reforestation projects — for the benefit of people, nature, and plant and animal life.
