Sustainability is about much more than CO2

Sustainability is absolutely essential to us – not only when it comes to construction, but throughout our entire organisation. We see it as a holistic effort across activities and resources, and we strive to incorporate climate, environmental, and social responsibility into everything we do.

Environmentally friendly and renewable

CLT, glulam, and timber cassettes are made of wood, which is an environmentally friendly and renewable material. As the wood is either FSC or PEFC certified, we ensure that it originates from responsibly managed forests, where new trees are planted for every one that is harvested.

Common to all three timber elements is that they have a significantly lower climate impact than conventional construction using steel, brick, and concrete.

The energy consumption is lower than in the production of traditional building systems, making timber construction a more climate- and environmentally friendly solution that actively contributes to reducing the carbon footprint of buildings and, consequently, the construction industry.

CLT production is far less energy-intensive than the production of, for example, concrete elements, fired bricks, steel, and other materials used in load-bearing structures – and in addition, wood functions as a carbon store throughout its entire lifespan.

The future lies in CLT and glulam construction

With the growing global focus on sustainability, it is expected that CLT and glulam will play a central role in the construction of the future. In Denmark and around the world, more and more developers and architects are viewing CLT and glulam as a means to reduce the carbon footprint of the construction industry and promote biogenic building. With advancing technology and innovative building processes, CLT and glulam will continue to evolve and become key components in modern architecture and construction. The same applies to timber cassettes, which also actively contribute to the green transition.

Long durability

For us, sustainability is also about constructing healthy, solid, and aesthetic buildings that last for many years — and doing so with care for nature, people, and the local community.

We support reforestation in Ecuador

We make ongoing donations to the Growing Trees Network, which facilitates the restoration of rainforest in Ecuador. The funds are invested in the sustainable production of balsa forests, which absorb three times more CO2 than a typical Danish forest. The establishment and maintenance of the new forests create jobs in indigenous communities.

We give back to the Earth

We know that building with wood uses the Earth's resources and affects the climate, the environment, and people. That is why we use only CLT and glulam from FSC- or PEFC-certified suppliers who plant more trees than they harvest.

Knowledge and collaboration are key

We are convinced that collaboration and knowledge sharing are crucial to the green transition. That is why we actively participate in fairs and conferences such as Building Green, Build in Wood, and the People's Climate Summit. At the same time, we maintain ongoing dialogue with potential green partners.

For a better world

We use the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals as a guideline for how we can become more sustainable in our business operations – from production and the materials we build with to the everyday activities at the office.

This is how we contribute to the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals

CLT elements weigh less than their concrete equivalents and therefore require fewer truckloads and less transport. The elements are precisely cut at the factory to fit the specific building. By building with CLT and glulam, we achieve optimal resource efficiency with an absolute minimum of waste.

We build to a high standard with a focus on health and safety. CLT and glulam are naturally moisture-regulating materials that contribute to a healthy indoor climate. We support local actors who are committed to sustainability — among others, we support EN FOR HOLDET, which organizes waste collection in our cities and natural areas. In addition, we support the indigenous people of Ecuador through donations to the Growing Trees Network, which helps create local jobs.

We build according to the “Design for Disassembly” principle, which means that structures can easily be dismantled and reused. This applies not only to CLT and glulam elements, but also down to the smallest details — including screws and fittings. The circular mindset permeates our entire organisation, from the materials we build with to the upcycling of exhibition stands and reused office furniture. Among other things, we purchase all our IT equipment second-hand from Refurbed.

We use only wood from FSC- or PEFC-certified growth forests. This means that production meets high standards of sustainable forestry, thereby preserving and expanding forest areas and biodiversity. In addition, we support reforestation projects — benefiting people, nature, and plant and animal life.
