Træ og klima – hvad giver det reelt af værdi i byggeri?

Træ kan reducere CO₂ i byggeri. Men den reelle klimaeffekt afhænger af, hvordan konstruktionen er tænkt og udført.
Hos Woodconstruction arbejder vi med bærende trækonstruktioner i praksis – primært i biogene materialer som træ. Vi møder ofte projekter, hvor træ vælges med et klart klimamål, men hvor effekten i praksis bliver mindre end forventet.
For os er klima ikke et mål i sig selv. Det er en konsekvens af at vælge og udføre konstruktioner rigtigt.

When does wood provide real climate impact?

Træ giver typisk størst effekt i bæredygtigt byggeri når:

it replaces concrete or steel in significant quantities
the structure is designed for wood from the outset
spans, grid, and material use are optimized
løsningen fungerer i både projektering og udførelse

Det er her, man reelt reducerer CO₂ i byggeri – ikke kun i beregninger, men i den færdige konstruktion.

When is the effect smaller?

Wood is not always the right choice.

Effekten bliver ofte mindre når:

the material choice is made late in the project
the structure is still largely concrete in practice
the solution becomes over-dimensioned
fokus er på materialet frem for konstruktionen

I de tilfælde bliver klimaargumentet ofte svagere, end det ser ud på papiret – og CO₂-besparelsen udebliver i praksis.

What influences CO₂ in practice?

CO₂ i byggeri afhænger ikke kun af materialevalget.

Det handler blandt andet om:

the quantity of materials
spænd, geometri og konstruktionstype
logistics and transport
assembly and construction process
sammenhængen mellem projektering og udførelse

Derfor giver det sjældent mening at vurdere ét parameter isoleret. Det er samspillet i konstruktionen, der afgør resultatet.

Typiske misforståelser i træbyggeri

Vi ser det igen og igen i projekter med fokus på bæredygtigt byggeri:

at træ altid er det mest klimavenlige valg
that CO₂ alone determines the decision
that you can switch to wood late in the project without consequences

I praksis er træbyggeri mere komplekst – og kræver, at konstruktionen er tænkt rigtigt fra starten.

Vores tilgang til træ og klima

We work with the structure – not just the material.

This means that we:

prefer to get involved early
work with solutions in biogenic materials where it makes sense
use documented and responsibly sourced wood, including FSC- and PEFC-certified supplies
focus on ensuring that the solution also works on the construction site

We make an honest assessment of whether wood is the right solution.

Sometimes it is.
Other times it is not.

Our work naturally aligns with the UN Sustainable Development Goals – particularly around responsible consumption and climate – but we do not treat this as an added layer. It is an integral part of the solution itself.

For us, climate and responsibility are not only about materials.

They are also about how we run our business in practice.

Among other things, we support:

Growing Trees Network
Which works with afforestation focused on CO₂, biodiversity, and groundwater protection.

Foreningen En for Holdet
Which collects waste and mobilizes people to make a concrete difference in nature.

At the same time, we are working with:

reuse in the design of our office and workplace
transitioning our vehicle fleet to electric

In addition, we regularly host interns and take part in job clarification programs, contributing to local employment initiatives.

This is not what we sell.
But it is part of how we run our business.
